The rollercoaster season for Brixham RFC took an upward shift at a soggy Sidmouth, as the Fishermen delivered an excellent 31-21 victory.

Consistency has been an elusive component over the first half of Brixham’s campaign and they did start slowly in Sidmouth, conceding an early try to the hosts, but parity was restored via a converted score from Connor Doneathy, diving over in the corner after a powerful scrum.

Jamie Hext was next to score, forcing his way over the line after a sloppy pass from the Sidmouth defence. Mitch Pinkus added a penalty and a further try from Kai Kidd increased the lead to 24-7 at half-time.

Kidd scored his second for the bonus point and while Sidmouth fought back with a couple of tries in the latter stages, it was a good day for Brixham, who host Royal Wootton Bassett on Saturday.

Paignton were far too strong for Kingsbridge, winning 35-7 at Queen’s Park, and it was again down to a powerful first-half performance. Jack Carlisle, Henry Hoare, Edward Curry and Kyle Cane all scored tries, Brad McKee notching the extras for a 28-0 lead.

The Cherries were able to coast through the second period, Hoare grabbing a second for his personal tally. Paignton Ladies rounded off a fine weekend for the club with a hard-fought 22-17 win at Truro.

Torquay Athletic completed the Bay hat-trick with a 19-12 defeat of Saltash. Ryan Hanauer, Ben Sharples and Billy Whalley scored the tries for the Tics, with Lewis Crocker kicking two conversions.
