A festive light has been shone on the Torbay businesses who have brought Christmas to the Bay this year.

A festive light has been shone on the Torbay businesses who have brought Christmas to the Bay this year.

The Bay of Lights is back – and it’s brighter, bolder, and more magical than ever before! From Friday November 28 to Friday January 2, the English Riviera will be transformed into a glittering wonderland of light, sound, and festive cheer.

Torbay Council says: “This spectacular event would not be possible without the incredible generosity of our sponsors, whose support has helped bring the Bay of Lights to life across Torquay, Paignton, and Brixham.

Magic of the Bay of Lights

“Torbay Council is proud to fund the event in partnership with SWISCo, and the English Riviera BID Company, and with the support of a host of amazing local businesses and organisations.

“The council is shining a light on the incredible businesses and organisations who have helped make the Bay of Lights possible this year.

“From funding spectacular installations to supporting our brand-new ice rink, their generosity is lighting up the English Riviera this Christmas.

“A special thanks go to our ice rink headline sponsors, Willmott Dixon, who have gone above and beyond to help fund this year’s brand-new ice rink at Abbey Park, Torquay.

“Their commitment has helped us bring a truly magical experience back to the Bay – offering families and visitors the chance to skate under a sparkling canopy for the first time in years.”

The council also thanked  installation sponsors Pier Point, Otto, Twenty1, Offshore Bar and Restaurant, Hoopers, PKF Francis Clark, Hays Travel, ERBID, Torbay Business Forum, The Torquay Comedy Club, Cantina TQ, and Osborne Apartments.

“The Illumination Trail, which welcomed over one million visitors last year, simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of our local business community. Their continued support not only helps to bring festive magic to the Bay but also highlights the impact of events like this on the local economy and community, “ says the council.

This year’s Trail, which has been created and produced by Future Technical Solutions, runs between Torre Abbey and Torquay Harbour, with dazzling new installations and a free, accessible sensory experience running daily from 4:30pm (sound until 9:30pm, lights until 11pm).

The trail also extends to Paignton and Brixham, where 12-metre-high, pixel-mappable Christmas trees will deliver stunning digital light and sound shows.

Adding to the festive spirit, Torre Abbey’s Christmas Market will run from Friday November 28 to Sunday December 21, featuring local stalls and delicious festive treats.

“We’re thrilled to share that local community groups have also joined the celebration, by decorating our festive trees, adding a personal and heartwarming touch to the market,” says the council.

“They added: “A particular thank you to Marldon Christmas Tree Farm as well who have kindly donated a 15ft Christmas tree to the market this year.”

The amazing "Alive with Light" feature, probably the most loved element of the Bay of lights package last year, also returns to the front of Torre Abbey.

Cllrr Jackie Thomas, Torbay Council's Cabinet Member for Tourism, Culture and Events, and Corporate Services, said: “Each year the Bay of Lights celebrations seem to get bigger and more magical, and that’s thanks to the incredible support from our partners, sponsors and supporters, including our fantastic local business community.

“Your generous support plays a vital part in lighting up the Bay and helping residents and visitors to create unforgettable festive memories – thank you.”

Carolyn Custerson, Chief Executive Officer, English Riviera BID Company, said:

"We are delighted to once again be working in partnership with Torbay Council for the Bay of Lights celebrations. Each year the events bring so much joy and festive magic to the English Riviera, its residents and visitors. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved who makes that possible."

Chris Wheeler, Regional Head of Land and Development at Willmott Dixon, said:

"Willmott Dixon is proud to be sponsoring the Bay of Lights this year. This event is more than festive fun, it’s a beacon for the community and a celebration of what makes Torbay really special. As regeneration partners alongside the Council, we’re committed to creating spaces and experiences that bring people together, and supporting the Bay of Lights is a perfect example of that."

The council says there’s still time to be part of the magic. They said:  “Whether you’re a local business looking to support the initiative, or a community group wanting to get involved, we’d love to hear from you. Your support helps us make the Bay of Lights a truly inclusive and unforgettable experience for everyone. If you are interested and would like to find out more, please contact Events@torbay.gov.uk.”
