Armistice Day marked by churches and communities

Torbay stood in silence to remember those who gave their lives in service of their country.

At the 11th hour of the 11th Day of the 11th month the guns of the First World War fell silent.

Since that day a two-minute minute silence has been marked at 11am on 11th November in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for freedom.

A two-minute silence was observed outside Torquay Town Hall at 11am. It was led by Mayor of Torbay Barbara Lewis.

A short service was held at the Paignton War Memorial organised by Paignton Branch of the Royal British Legion, including a two minutes’ silence.

St Marychurch Armistice Day event

In St Marychurch an Armistice Service was held on Fore Street, St Marychurch by the War Memorial, which included a wreath laying and a two-minute silence.

There was also be a short service in the afternoon at the War Memorial outside the Little Theatre in Torquay.
