An extensive search for a missing woman ended in tragedy in Brixham yesterday.
Following a Coastguard call to the Torbay Lifeboat station of a reported missing person at Berry Head, the lifeboat voluntary crew immediately launched the D-Class In-shore Lifeboat at just after 11am on Tuesday January 30 and the Severn Class All weather Lifeboat shortly after to carry out a shoreline search from Shoalstone to Berry Head.
Police search teams were already carrying out a land search alongside Coastguard Rescue teams. A casualty was spotted by the ALB at Berry Head.
The Air Ambulance and a Coastguard helicopter were tasked to aid recovery whilst a cliff rescue was set up on-scene, with drone unit deployed. However, the woman was sadly found to be deceased.
The lifeboats remained on scene until we and the Coastguard helicopter were stood down at 12.02pm Both lifeboats returned to station and were back on service at 12.27pm. The lifeboat station said their condolences go out to the family.
