Dartmoor Zoo has extended an exciting opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the world of animal care and research through placement positions for the upcoming academic year.

Offering two different types of placements, the zoo is searching for eager students to fill the roles of Education and Public Engagement as well as a Researcher.

With a closing date for applications looming on January 31, potential candidates must be quick to submit their applications in order to be considered.

As a charitable institution, Dartmoor Zoo has emphasised the pivotal role that student placements play in supporting their mission. This initiative not only contributes to the zoo's success but also allows students to cultivate indispensable skills for their future careers. The positions offer a chance to engage with diverse animal species and become an integral part of the passionate zoo team.

For the 2024-25 academic year, the zoo is on the hunt for passionate students to fill these exciting voluntary roles.

The first position of voluntary research assistant is tailored for those pursuing degrees in animal science, zoo-related studies, environmental science, or psychology. The position promises a hands-on experience within a BIAZA and WAZA accredited zoo research department.

From contributing to ongoing projects to conducting independent research and presenting findings, this role immerses students in the vibrant world of zoo research.

The second position searches for suitable candidates to act as Engagement Assistants for the 2024-2025 academic year.

This placement offers a dynamic experience within the zoo's award-winning education department. Responsibilities include captivating public talks, orchestrating volunteer teams, and actively contributing to diverse educational activities.

Ideal candidates should embody a passion for conservation education, exhibit confidence in public speaking, possess stellar communication skills, and demonstrate flexibility.

These groundbreaking opportunities position students at the forefront of conservation and education, allowing them to play an active role in Dartmoor Zoo's mission.

With application deadlines approaching, aspiring candidates are urged to seize this moment and submit their applications promptly for a chance to be part of these immersive and educational placement programs.
