Hospiscare’s Men’s Walk surpasses £1 million milestone

Record-breaking turnout helps Exeter charity event reach fundraising milestone

A record number of walkers turned out for Hospiscare’s 13th annual Men’s Walk, helping the event surpass £1 million in total fundraising since its inception. More than 1,600 participants took part in the event on Saturday, 15 March, raising over £125,000, with donations still coming in.

The sponsored charity walk saw participants set off from Double Locks, Exeter, completing a 7-mile route along Exeter’s scenic quayside. Others took part remotely via the ‘Your Way’ option, choosing their own routes while still supporting the cause.

Walkers were treated to pints and pasties, generously provided by Exeter Brewery and Chunk of Devon, after crossing the finish line.

The event sold out in record time, as supporters rallied behind the campaign to ‘March to a Million’, marking the event’s biggest fundraising total yet.

Chris Musgrave, a dedicated Hospiscare supporter, took part for the sixth consecutive year, honouring his late mother. “Knowing that we’ve hit that million for Hospiscare, I’m absolutely buzzing. I couldn’t be prouder to be a small part of it for such an amazing charity,” he said.

Local businesses also showed strong support, with Wilkinson Grant sponsoring the event for the 12th consecutive year, and Cornwall Glass employees raising an additional £700 on the day.

Nick Madden, Cornwall Glass Branch Manager, expressed his gratitude: “A big thank you to all our families, friends, colleagues and customers who supported us again this year, helping to raise over £700 for Hospiscare. Together, we can make a difference.”

The funds raised will help Hospiscare continue to provide vital end-of-life care and support to patients and their families across Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Martin Stokke, Senior Events Fundraiser for Hospiscare, highlighted the significance of the record-breaking year. “Men’s Walk continues to grow each year thanks to the unwavering support of local people and businesses. In a challenging financial climate, the success of Men’s Walk 2025 is truly vital in funding our specialist services.

“A huge thank you to the volunteers who made the event possible, and to everyone who went the extra mile by raising crucial funds for their local hospice.”

With this milestone reached, Men’s Walk is set to continue as one of Exeter’s most cherished charity events, bringing the community together for a cause that makes a lasting impact.
