Comedy at the Castle

One of the UK’s biggest open-air comedy festivals comes to Powderham Castle, with a star-studded lineup and incredible street food

Get ready for a summer of side-splitting comedy as one of the UK’s biggest open-air festivals makes its way to Devon!

Cobra Presents Comedy at the Castle Exeter is bringing some of the biggest names in stand-up to the stunning Powderham Castle on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 July 2025.

Following two smash-hit years at Warwick Castle, the festival is expanding to a second historic venue, with a 4,500-strong crowd set to enjoy an epic mix of comedy, mouthwatering street food, and top-tier drinks.

Brace yourself for belly laughs with comedy royalty Frank Skinner headlining Friday night. Saturday brings double the fun with Joel Dommett in the afternoon and Russell Kane closing the night.

And that’s not all - comedy stars Jen Brister, Larry Dean, Gary Delaney, Kane Brown, and host Freddy Quinne will also take the stage for two unforgettable nights of stand-up.

This isn’t just a comedy gig, it’s a full-on festival experience! Organised by Closeup Comedy and street food connoisseurs Digbeth Dining Club, the event pairs big laughs with incredible eats.

Expect next-level food from Beef on the Block (British steak and chips), Brum Mi (East Asian rice bowls and banh mi), and Bournville Waffle Company (Belgian desserts). Plus, beer, cocktails, and fizz bars will be flowing all weekend.

Harry Jenkins, director of Closeup Comedy, says: “We’re thrilled to bring Comedy at the Castle to Devon! Powderham Castle is an amazing location, and with this killer line-up and fantastic food traders, we know this is going to be something special.”

Set against the backdrop of one of the South West’s most iconic heritage sites, Powderham Castle attracts 125,000 visitors annually. Alongside hosting this huge comedy festival, the venue’s summer lineup also includes music giants McFly, Dizzee Rascal, Duran Duran, and Nile Rodgers.

Derry Tydeman, Heritage Manager at Powderham, shares his excitement: “We’ve always wanted to bring comedy to Powderham, and after seeing the success at Warwick, we reached out to make it happen. The line-up is incredible, and we can’t wait to welcome festival-goers for a weekend of laughs, food, and fun.”

Tickets start at £27.50 and are now on sale.

Meanwhile, Warwick Castle’s edition of the festival runs from Friday 23 to Sunday 25 May 2025, featuring Paul Smith, Frankie Boyle, and Seann Walsh.
