5 fun things to do this weekend in Exeter: markets, music, theatre and more

Looking ahead to the weekend in Exeter? Here are our top five picks - enjoy!

DANCE
21 March
Spring Equinox Ceilidh
Welcome the arrival of spring with a lively ceilidh at The Hall on Stepcote Hill. Expect an evening of folk music, dancing and a warm, welcoming atmosphere - no experience needed, just a willingness to join in.

The Blue Jewel Ceilidh Band, led by caller Kip, will provide energetic traditional tunes from across Britain and beyond. 7.30pm–11pm, with a silent disco from 10pm for those keen to keep the night going.

MARKET
21 March
Exeter Quayside Farmers’ Market
Piazza Terracina on Exeter Quayside hosts its monthly farmers’ market from 9am to 1pm, bringing together a great selection of locally produced food, handmade goods and plants.

With sunshine forecast this Saturday, it's a perfect time to swing by the market!

PERFORMANCE
21 March
The City For Incurable Women
Set in 1880s Paris, this striking production takes place in a psychiatric hospital where female patients are made to publicly perform ‘hysteria’, as doctors attempt to categorise and control mental illness.

Created by international theatre collective fish in a dress, the show examines the disturbing history of hysteria and invites the audience into a powerful and unsettling exploration of medical misogyny. 7pm, Exeter Phoenix.

MUSIC
21 March
Devon Philharmonic Orchestra
The Devon Philharmonic Orchestra returns with a rich and varied programme, including Verdi’s Force of Destiny Overture, Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis, and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5.
7.30pm, Exeter Cathedral.

COMEDY
22 March
Cally Beaton
Namaste Motherfckers is the latest show from Cally Beaton (QI, Live at the Apollo) - a bold, witty and refreshingly honest look at midlife. Combining stand-up with stories from her book of the same name, Cally reflects on her unconventional path from corporate life to comedy, sparked by an unexpected encounter with the late Joan Rivers. A sharp and entertaining take on a meaningful topic, the show celebrates women who refuse to fade into the background.

Includes a Q&A and meet-and-greet. 7.45pm, Barnfield Theatre.
