All aboard Torbay’s Christmas Train of Lights

The UK’s first steam train of lights is running throughout the festive season until 30 December

The Christmas Train of Lights is once again lighting up Torbay, offering passengers a festive journey along the coast aboard the UK’s first ever steam train of lights.

Running from 28 November to 30 December, the multi award-winning experience has become a must-see event in the South West’s festive calendar, attracting visitors from across the region. The illuminated journey can only be viewed from the train as it travels between Paignton and Kingswear, with exclusive lineside displays and surprises revealed along the route.

Passengers begin their journey at Queen’s Park Station in Paignton, where vintage carriages await, decorated with thousands of lights inside and out. After departing, the show begins shortly after Churston Station, before the train enters the 450-metre Greenway tunnel and emerges into an enchanted forest transformed by a dazzling display of lights, featuring both returning favourites and new installations.

The experience concludes with views of Dartmouth’s twinkling waterfront reflected on the River Dart, before the train turns around at Kingswear, allowing passengers time to step onto the platform and take photographs before heading back to Paignton to enjoy the spectacle from a different perspective.

Organisers say the 2025 show will be bigger and better than ever, with new surprises planned along the line. For a limited time, Train of Lights tickets are being held at 2024 prices, with adults priced at £29.95, children at £21.95, and family tickets available for £100. A separate Train of Lights and Santa experience is also available.
