Pictures – Carols by Candlelight brings people together for children’s hospice

Hundreds gathered for the traditional Carols by Candlelight service at Bideford Pannier Market for Children’s Hospice South West

The community gathered at the historic Bideford Pannier Market on Saturday (December 13) for the popular traditional Carols by Candlelight event in support of Children’s Hospice South West.

Hundreds of people enjoyed heart-warming performances from St Mary’s Primary School Choir and Bideford Town Band, along with Christmas readings and the chance to light a candle in memory of loved ones.

Father Christmas also made a special appearance, which created huge excitement for the children attending, while visitors warmed up with mince pies and mulled wine afterwards.

Emma Perry, head of fundraising at Little Bridge House in Fremington, the original home of CHSW, said: “Carols by Candlelight was a truly magical evening, bringing our community together in the spirit of Christmas.

“Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended and supported the event, we’ve raised vital funds for Children’s Hospice South West. These donations make a real difference, helping us provide care and comfort to local children with life-limiting conditions and their families.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who made this possible – from our wonderful volunteers to those who gave so generously. A special thank you to St Mary’s School Choir, St Mary’s Parish Church, Bideford Town Band for their contribution and performances and to Adrian Scarrett leading a roaring rendition of ‘The Twelve Days of Christmas’ – you made the evening unforgettable.”
